💡 What is a Film Capacitor?
Film capacitors are passive components that utilize a thin plastic film as their dielectric. This plastic film can be made of polyester, polypropylene, polystyrene, or polycarbonate. The film is sandwiched between two metal electrodes, typically made of aluminum foil, with leads connecting the electrodes to the outside of the capacitor. Film capacitors are widely used in electronic circuits due to their low cost and numerous advantages such as low loss, high insulation resistance, good frequency response, good temperature stability, and long life.

The most common way to categorize film capacitors is by the type of dielectric used. Here are the three main types of dielectrics used in film capacitors:
1. Polypropylene (PP)
Polypropylene film capacitors are among the best for general-purpose applications due to their high-temperature resistance, low leakage current, and good stability over a wide range of frequencies.

2. Polyester (PET)
Polyester film capacitors are the most widely used type. They are less expensive than polypropylene capacitors but have higher leakage current and poorer stability at high frequencies.
